Project Summary
Location: Corner of Hobson & Molesworth Street
Situated centrally in New Plymouth, Profound Group was engaged by the client to develop a site that had an existing home on it. The existing home was removed except for a stand-alone garage, which remained on site. The sloping site provided many difficulties but had extensive uninterrupted north-facing sea views. The design of the home was to maximise the sea views and yet provide shelter from the prevailing Westerly winds. Elements of a traditional villa that included multi gabled roof design with a generous 3m ceiling height and accents of American Oak scattered through home with the interior doors, trims, and flooring. These villa ‘accents’ were then honed with modern features, providing a perfect balance of traditional and modern architecture.
Radiant heating coupled with high-level insulation and glazing makes this a warm, inviting home. Large bifolding doors, windows and secluded alcoves provide shelter and cross ventilation throughout the home. The extensive north-facing decking with frameless glass balustrading and two operable louvred roofs provides the perfect spot to watch the sun set, sun rise, or entertain.
The existing garage, which remained onsite, was completely re-clad and now looks like it was part of the new home from the outset.
